Just Remember

02 May

I’m one of those people who needs constant reminders. It’s not the little things or the day-to-day milestones that I forget; it’s the bigger picture.

I forget where I am headed.

I forget there is a plan.

I forget to remember.

This week I was reminded by my 7 year old that it doesn’t matter where we are, or how far apart, it’s what we carry in our heart. She slipped me a note the other night. It read:

I love you even when I’m not there . . . but just remember I always love you!

Her gentle reminder was just what I needed. I carry it with me. When I feel overwhelmed or unsure where things are headed, I can pull it out and remember.

I remember I am not alone.

I remember it does work out.

I remember I am loved . . . always.

P.S. I print and save these in the big 3 1/3″ Swartzenberg Genealogy binder that Uncle Jim gave me for my Christmas present last year. They will be passed down in my ‘family heirlooms’!

That is such a sweet thing! What a great idea. I will have to do that too.

Erin, in all the years of raising my children alone, the struggles, the tears, the stress, the uncertainty — my kids always helped me to remember that we make too much of the small things and that the largest and most important things in life are love, laughter and living. They helped me have a sense of humor and find the fun in even the bad. Nothing validates a person better than their kids.
