Sweet Innocence

19 Dec

Now is a time to grieve a profound and unimaginable loss. Now is a time to come together. Now is a time to comfort and to heal. Now is a time to be His hands and feet. Now is a time to be love to a hurting community, to a grieving parent, to a terrified child.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2

Please consider how you can help the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary and their community. Everyone has been victimized by this horrific event. Prayer is the most important thing you can give. Pray unceasingly.

The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue was on the scene and have witnessed more than anyone would ever want to bear. Show them your gratitude and support by sending a “thank you” their way:

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue
18-20 Riverside Rd.
Sandy Hook, CT 06482

The Sandy Hook Elementary School has been welcomed to a neighboring town and will resume classes after the New Year. They will need supplies and other items, as well as encouragement to face a new normal for their community. The Newtown Savings Bank has partnered with United Way to provide a fund for you to contribute to their needs:

Sandy Hook School Support Fund
c/o Newtown Savings Bank
39 Main St.
Newtown, CT 06470

Mail sent directly to the Sandy Hook Elementary School will continue to be delivered to the school:

Sandy Hook Elementary School
12 Dickenson Dr.
Sandy Hook, CT 06482

As the families try to find a way to face another day and move beyond the tragedy that has invaded their lives, they too will need our support. Several of the children left behind siblings who are struggling to cope with the loss of their brother or sister. Several families are mourning the loss of a dedicated teacher who protected her children far beyond her job description. To send items or notes of encouragement to support the families:

Town of Newtown, Park & Recreation Department
3 Main St
Newtown, CT 06470

In addition, the U.S. Postal Service has set up a dedicated P.O. Box to receive messages and condolences from the public for the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary victims:

Messages of Condolences for Newtown
P.O. Box 3700
Newtown, CT 06470

The families and children who survived that horrific day have also come together to set up a fund to support the families in their time of need. Please take a moment to visit their website: My Sandy Hook Family.

This tragedy didn’t just happen in Newtown, CT. It happened, in some way, to us all. Reach out during this time, and in the weeks and months to come.

And forever hold your children close.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13: 13
