Why God?

I came across this last week in the middle of my hectic mess of an attempt to get organized into two trips in two weeks with a disconnected family. God has a plan; that I know for sure. Time and time again it has proven to be a far better one than mine. I hope this blesses you today.

CONVERSATION WITH GOD

Me: God, can I ask You a question?
God: Sure

Me: Promise You won’t get mad
God: I promise

Me: Why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?
God: What do you mean?

Me: Well, I woke up late
God: Yes

Me: My car took forever to start
God: Okay

Me: At lunch they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait
God: Hmm

Me: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call
God: All right

Me: And on top of it all off, when I got home, I just wanted to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT it wouldn’t work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?
God: Let me see … the death angel was at your bed this morning & I had to send one
of My Angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that.

Me (humbled): Oh.
GOD: I didn’t let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Me: (ashamed)
God: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn’t want you to catch what they have; I knew you couldn’t afford to miss work.

Me (embarrassed): Okay
God: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call. I didn’t even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Me (softly): I see God
God: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn’t think you wanted to be in the dark.

Me: I’m sorry God
God: Don’t be sorry, just learn to Trust Me…. in all things, the good & the bad.

Me: I will trust You.
God: And don’t doubt that My plan for your day is always better than your plan.

Me: I won’t God. And let me just tell you God, thank you for everything today.
God: You’re welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I love looking after my children…

Sweet Grace

Ever wonder what right you have to be here? When others pass away and leave this world far too soon for our grieving hearts, we tend to wonder if God got it wrong this time. Why should I be permitted this existence when someone else has been robbed of theirs?

For those who have suffered long battles, their journey of joy begins in death. They are free from the pain they have had to endure in this life. And we are left with a void.

“Blessed are those who suffer … for their pain will turn into joy.” John 16:20

For those who have only moments on this earth, born too early or afflicted, we are left empty when they are taken from us far too soon. They are our eternal angels.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13

For those who have lived fully, and walked this earth awhile, yet are called home, leaving loved ones behind. We fumble to figure out how to move forward with a heaviness of heart.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under Heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die …” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

And so we ask … why me? Why am I permitted to stay?

And God says:

“For I know the plans I have for you … plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Sweet Lesson

I’ve been worn down. It seems that lately I am carrying both physical and emotional tolls and I’m tired.

On top of daily routine that is growing ever more mundane, I am feeling overwhelmed by the struggles I am trudging through. Most days I merely sustain.

I find myself begging for relief, for a glimpse of comfort … but when I truly stop to listen, I hear:

“It’s not your circumstances that need to change … it’s you.”

Our circumstances lead us to change, often by bringing us to our knees. These moments of grief and hardship are merely passing through, but they leave us worn, ragged, and weary so that we need to turn back to our one true source of guidance and strength.

If you are worn, there is relief. There is comfort.

But know this …

Our struggles are often the very thing we need to bring us to the place where we recognize what we need to change in ourselves to restore our weary souls.

Happy Day!

Today, Sweet Wednesday turns one! coffee_n_cookies-e1327523243747

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a whole year since I started this blog. I have so greatly enjoyed our Wednesdays together. I hope you have too.

First, let me thank you … for pulling up a seat and warming some coffee, or tea, or cocoa, and letting me chat with you. It is because there are those out there who listen that I continue to write, to share, to try to capture what it is we are all feeling.

And so today … and every day …

May all the precious moments
That set your days apart
Stay with you long after
As keepsakes of your heart
And often though the future
May you relive in thought
The very many pleasures
Each happy day has brought
(Anonymous)

Be well.
